The Eel Project:
The DEC helps conduct monitoring of glass eels at 11 creeks along the Hudson River, including the Saw Kill. Students, community members, and scientists use specialized nets to trap and collect glass eels each spring. Participants get first hand field experience and their data gets analyzed along with all the other data collected from the other sites by scientists and members of the DEC. The compiled data counts eel population trends and is necessary to purpose and find the right management decisions to stop the eel populations from declining.
We will be planning a Spring Cleaning event on the Sawkill– more information coming soon!
